Pink Paws Handlers and Dogs
Handlers and therapy dogs are rigorously screened, certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and maintain current health records. They are integral Saint Francis volunteers, held to the same high standards of care, professionalism and accountability as all health system volunteers.
From Cherished Visitors to Official Partners in Health
More than a decade ago, therapy dogs started visiting Saint Francis hospitals.Inspired by their success at Saint Francis Children’s Hospital, the health system created a formal therapy dog program that now serves the entire health system. In its first six months, 36 handler-dog teams logged more than 500 hours of service.
Looking Ahead
Public Support: Community contributions help expand Pink Paws, adding more handler-dog teams and providing training for additional volunteers.
Mentorship Program: Pink Paws is launching a student mentorship initiative to inspire the next generation of therapy dog handlers and healthcare workers.
