Saint Francis is please to offer 24/7 obstetrical and gynecological care to expectant moms at Saint Francis Hospital.
What is an OB Hospitalist?
An OB hospitalist is an OB/GYN specialist who focuses on caring for patients in the hospital. They are trained to manage the full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic care from routine to emergency services. They also provide inpatient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but do not have patients outside of the hospital.
The OB Hospitalist team at Saint Francis Hospital is made up of board-certified OB/GYN physicians. These OB/GYN specialists do not replace a woman's regular obstetrician, but rather acts as a safety net should a pregnancy-related or gynecological medical emergency occur when your physician is not immediately available. They may also care for you during your labor before your OB/GYN arrives or if you are hospitalized at any time during your pregnancy for a complication.
Benefits of OB Hospitalists
Not every hospital utilizes OB Hospitalists. The benefits of having an OB/GYN on staff 24/7 include:
- Should an obstetric or gynecological emergency arise, an OB/GYN specialist is in house to access the situation quickly, stabilize the patient and coordinate her care plan.
- When coming in for a routine delivery, OB hospitalists are never more than a few minutes away should anything happen before your regular OB arrives.
- OB Hospitalists can help answer your questions, ensure you are comfortable and handle any OB/GYN medical requests you may have.
- They work closely with your primary OB physician to ensure the best continuity of care possible.
