Elbow Conditions & Injuries
Elbow pain may be caused by many different issues, ranging from overuse to acute injury or could be resulting from a chronic condition. These issues may involve any of the individual parts that make up your elbow joint, including tendons and ligaments, or the radius and ulna bones.
Some common elbow injuries and conditions can be treated with a rest, ice over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications. However, if not properly treated, many elbow conditions may become chronic problems. If you’ve tried to recover from elbow pain, but notice the pain hanging around for several weeks at a time, or fading away and then coming back just when you thought it was gone for good – it might be time to talk with an elbow specialist.

Tommy John Surgery
At Saint Francis we’re seeing an increase in the number of patients with baseball-related elbow injuries, including tears in the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in particular. With the growing demands of competitive youth and pro sports, there is a greater chance of injuries from overuse, strain and sudden injury.
With an injury to the UCL, our elbow specialists may prescribe Tommy John surgery. Tommy John surgery, also known as Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Reconstruction, is a surgical procedure to reconstruct the UCL using a tendon from the forearm. The tendon is used to recreate the damaged ligament and improve the stability of the elbow joint.
