Our Dermatology Services

The various diseases dermatologists diagnose and treat include skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis and nail infections. Our dermatologists also help patients diminish age spots and other signs of aging as well as help patients look more like themselves after surgery to remove skin cancer.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Patients with basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma are commonly referred for Mohs micrographic surgery. Mohs has a high cure rate. This type of surgery also allows you to keep as much healthy skin as possible because the surgeon only removes the skin with cancer cells. This is especially important when skin cancer develops in an area with little tissue beneath (e.g., eyelid, ear or hand).

During Mohs surgery, you'll be given an injection of anesthetic to numb the area that will be operated on, so you'll be awake during the surgery. The visible tumor and a small segment of surrounding skin are removed. The tissue is then examined under a microscope for cancer cells. If cancer cells are found, skin continues to be removed and examined. This continues until no more cancer cells are found.

Following Mohs surgery, some wounds may need stitches while others heal nicely without stitches. Your Mohs surgeon will determine the best treatment for you.
