Laboratory Result Reporting
- The Laboratory Director (Clinical Scientist) reviews and provides interpretation for all cases.
- Laboratory results are communicated to clients and physicians by several means, including hospital information system, printed reports, facsimile reports and verbal reports. All written reports for conventional cytogenetic analysis and a karyotype print can be provided upon request. Color prints are available upon request for FISH analysis.
- Clients and physicians may request a phone notification or fax report by indicating so on the test requisition form.
- Preliminary verbal or written results may be offered when indicated and requested by a physician or genetic counselor. Final results are generated at the completion of the test and may contain updated information from the preliminary result.
Test Turnaround Time
Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of hours or days between the time the specimen is received in the laboratory and the time a test result is reported. Tests often require less time, but may occasionally require more.
The laboratory is open for testing Monday - Friday 8:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed weekends and holidays. Testing schedules indicated for specific tests may change. Please refer to test information pages for the most up to date information.
Accreditation / Licensure
The laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and certified by the Department of Health and Human Services Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). The laboratory also maintains current licenses and registrations required by state/local regulations and clients; including the State of California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory License and State of Pennsylvania Department of Health Clinical Laboratory License.
The laboratory technical staff members are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in the field of Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology. The technical staff members also hold memberships in professional societies such as Association of Genetic Technologists (AGT), Association of Molecular Pathology (AMP) and the American Association of Clinical Chemistry (AACC).
