Saint Francis Health System and Saint Francis Hospital have been recognized among the top 10 health systems and hospitals in the country for fair share spending, according to the 2024 Lown Institute Hospital Index. Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee and Saint Francis Hospital South were also named to this national list of recognized hospitals.

The report issued by the Lown Institute, an independent healthcare think tank, finds the Saint Francis Health System, Saint Francis Hospital, Saint Francis Hospital South and Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee spent more on financial assistance and community investment than the estimated value of their nonprofit tax exemption in 2021, giving them what the Institute calls a “fair share” surplus. Each is among only 20% of nonprofit hospitals nationwide to have such a surplus. In total, U.S. hospitals with fair share surpluses invested more than $4 billion dollars in excess of their tax breaks in 2021.

This is the second consecutive year that Saint Francis Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee were recognized by the Lown Institute in this category.

“Good hospitals make their patients healthier, but socially responsible hospitals make their communities healthier too,” said Dr. Vikas Saini, president of the Lown Institute. “These are the hospitals America needs right now — hospitals that can set and achieve ambitious goals for serving their entire community.”

“This is a great honor and a reflection of Saint Francis' constant commitment to service,” said Dr. Cliff Robertson, president and CEO of Saint Francis Health System. “Our mission is to extend the presence and healing ministry of Christ in all we do. We achieve that every day through excellent healthcare and a constant eye to the needs of our patients, our staff and our communities.”
