Your child's breathing problems may take your breath away. As a parent, you want to determine if your child's wheezing is asthma or something else, and that's where a Saint Francis Children's Physicians pediatric pulmonologist may be of assistance. Warren Clinic and Saint Francis Children's Hospital specialize in treating children with breathing problems.
Common Pediatric Pulmonary Conditions
Our pediatric pulmonary specialists treat many conditions including:

Common Pediatric Pulmonary Tests
The pediatric pulmonology team works with parents to determine treatment options specific to the child's needs. Common tests include Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and the Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FFB). Both are used to obtain an accurate diagnosis and to assist in treatment, planning and lung health maintenance.
Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT). This non-invasive test can be tailored to work best for a child. It is used to measure the amount of air moving in and out of the lungs, at what speed the air moves, the size of the lungs, how much air the lungs can hold and how well the lungs function in taking oxygen from the air.
Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FFB). An FFB allows pulmonologists to look inside the lungs with a fiberoptic scope. This more invasive procedure is not surgery, but does require sedation.
Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
The Cystic Fibrosis Clinic is one day a week at the Saint Francis Children's Physicians Pediatric Pulmonology office. It provides integrated, multidisciplinary care for children with cystic fibrosis (CF). During clinic hours, families have the opportunity to talk with their child's pulmonologist, a pharmacist, a social worker and a dietitian all in the same day at the same location.
Taking Care of Area Kids
Your child's team of CF specialists encourage parents to be active partners in managing their child's health. The Cystic Fibrosis Clinic works closely with patients and their families to:
- Promote normal growth and development
- Slow the progression of cystic fibrosis disease
- Prevent and treat complications
