The Henry Zarrow Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Saint Francis Children's Hospital has been the site of life-saving neonatal services and miraculous recoveries since 1978. Today, our NICU cares for nearly 850 newborns and their families annually, and serves as a trusted regional center for Oklahoma and neighboring states.
Count on State-of-the-Art Neonatal Care
Whether your little one is born at Saint Francis Hospital or transferred from a surrounding hospital by our specially trained neonatology transport team, know that he or she will receive the most advanced medical care available.
Located on the fifth floor of Saint Francis Children's Hospital, our 30,000-square-foot neonatal intensive care unit is specifically designed for babies born with special care needs. The unit includes 58 beds, 38 of which are private rooms with six semi-private/twin rooms and an eight-bed stabilization unit located near the labor and delivery area.
We take great pride in receiving a Level IV distinction from the American Academy of Pediatrics—the highest rating available to NICU. Our skilled neonatologists provide around-the-clock care, including life-saving procedures like therapeutic hypothermia and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for infants suffering with heart and lung failure.
Personalized Support for You and Your Newborn
While you can take comfort in our top-of-the-line neonatal technology, we know that “TLC” is just as important in the medical care we give. You and your family can expect warm, family-centered care throughout your stay at Saint Francis Children's Hospital, in an atmosphere designed with the developmental needs of your newborn in mind.
- Each of our neonatal rooms is equipped with adjustable, subdued lighting, a sleeping area and breastfeeding/pumping area.
- As your newborn’s status allows, you will be encouraged to hold and progress to the diapering, feeding and bathing of your baby. Our entire neonatology team is eager to help you and answer any questions.
- You are welcome to bring personal clothing, blankets and small toys for your baby. Please do not bring any item of monetary or emotional value, as we cannot guarantee against loss or breakage.
- Taking a neonatal newborn home can cause some anxiety. We’re here to help ease the transition through hands-on, one-on-one “practice” caring for your new baby and providing all the information you need to feel comfortable and confident.
