Saint Francis Hospital Introduces Eastern Oklahoma's First Safe Haven Baby Box

Saint Francis Hospital proudly introduced the first Safe Haven Baby Box in northeast Oklahoma, providing a secure, anonymous option for parents in crisis to legally and safely surrender an infant they cannot care for.
The Safe Haven Baby Box is located on the south side of the hospital campus, between the trauma center entrance and ambulance area, across the roadway from the trauma center parking lot P4.
The climate-controlled, ventilated and secure medical bassinet is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of surrendered newborns. Once the infant is placed inside, the door automatically locks and an internal alarm alerts hospital staff who responds immediately.
“At Saint Francis, our mission is to extend the presence and healing ministry of Christ to all we do. That mission goes beyond the walls of our hospitals—it means caring for our entire community, especially the most vulnerable,” said Doug Williams, President of Saint Francis Hospital. “The Safe Haven Baby Box is a tangible expression of that commitment, offering a compassionate option for parents in crisis while providing their child with security, dignity and hope.”
Saint Francis Hospital is committed to protecting the anonymity of anyone permitted by law to surrender an infant. Security cameras are positioned away from the baby box, and no audible alarm is triggered near the box. Hospital staff is trained to handle surrenders discreetly and with dignity.
